SPRINGDALE, NL — Scott Noftall is doing his part to take basketball to the next level, and will try to do the same in Springdale next weekend.
The director of Next Level Basketball Training out of St. John’s is offering a pair of basketball camps in Springdale Nov. 4-5 — one for Grade 2-6 aged players and the other for Grade 7 and up.
Noftall, with his fellow coaches, is well known for his basketball prowess on the east coast, and has done some camps and training at various locations throughout the province. When the opportunity to come to Springdale to work with youth throughout the region presented itself, Noftall jumped on it.
“We are excited about getting out to Springdale to meet some of the kids and the coaches, and to get to work,” he said.
Angela Torraville, the 2021 Canada Games female head coach, will also be in attendance.
Noftall said holding camps throughout the province, in addition to his regular program in St. John’s, provides the opportunity to see talent in other areas. However, the goal of the camp is more about teaching the sport, having fun and working hard.
He said a number of local coaches have contacted him to participate and learn from Next Level’s teaching techniques.
“They seem to be very eager to learn, as well as the kids,” he said.
Camps are open to players throughout the region and of all skill levels.
“It is about teaching the game and growing the game,” he said. “We have a lot of coaches out there who mean really well, but may not have a lot of experience. We are just trying to give them another look and to help grow their program. Hopefully, it can spark the game of basketball in Springdale.”
