RCMP, Highway Enforcement Officers conduct commercial vehicle inspections

Over 100 defects spotted, 12 vehicles taken off road immediatelyBetween August 24, and September 16, members of the RCMP Traffic Services Central along with Newfoundland and Labrador Highway Enforcement Officers, conducted four commercial vehicle inspections.The majority of the vehicles inspected were commercial dump trucks in or near the towns of Gander, Grand Falls - Windsor, Springdale and South Brook.

Vehicle inspectors from Provincial Highway Enforcement found 102 defects after inspecting 27 vehicles. Of these, 12 of the vehicles inspected were immediately taken off the road for safety defects to the vehicle or for being over weight. There were 23 defective equipment tickets issued and four over weight tickets.

Some of the defects noted were: Tires worn to the inner core, chafed brake lines, brakes out of adjustment, fuel leaks, oil leaks, coolant leaks and hydraulic leaks.
