On social media, Taylor Swift fans and aviation journalists believe they recognize Swift's private jet, dubbed “The Football Era.” It arrived from Tokyo's Haneda Airport to Los Angeles' LAX Airport just after 3:30pm local time.
Her transportation plans to Las Vegas, where her boyfriend, NFL star Travis Kelce, will play in Sunday's Super Bowl, have not yet been revealed.
Representatives for Swift, the world's only global private airline, and VistaJet did not immediately respond to AP's request for comment.
With Swift's last song ringing in the ears of thousands of fans at the Tokyo Dome on Saturday night, the singer rushed to a private jet at Haneda Airport to begin an intensely researched trip to see Kells.
“We're all going to go on a great adventure,” Swift told the crowd earlier. She talks about music, but it could also describe her race against time to cross nine time zones and the International Date Line.
With a final bow at the end of her sold-out show, dressed in a blue-lined dress, the crowd screaming, strobe lights pulsing, confetti falling, Swift disappearing under the stage, her journey to the other side of the world began.
Kelce's anticipated trip to watch the Kansas City Chiefs play the San Francisco 49ers in Las Vegas has fueled speculation for weeks.
“I hope she can come back in time. It's so romantic,” said office worker Hitomi Takahashi, 29, who was taking photos outside the Tokyo Dome with her friend in matching Taylor Swift sweatshirts.
About an hour after the concert, AP journalists were near Haneda's private jet area when minivans pulled up and someone walked into the gate area, four to five people carrying large black umbrellas blocking the person's view.
The music superstar recovered from a stumble on stage at the Era's Tour concert in Tokyo on February 9.
There was ample evidence at the concert of the unique cultural phenomenon of the Swift-Kells relationship, the connection to professional football and Swift's enormous star power. In addition to the array of apparel celebrating Swift, there were also Kells jerseys and hats and other head gear.
Some spent thousands of dollars to attend the pop superstar's concerts this week.
“Romeo, take me where we can be alone,” Swift sang.
She won't find a sold-out crowd in Las Vegas on Sunday, not to mention millions around the world, watching her.
To call the global study of Swift's travels intense would be an understatement.
Fans followed his jet. The planet-warming carbon emissions of his globe-trotting expeditions have been criticized. Officials have weighed the possibility of stopping his jet at Las Vegas airports.
Even Japanese diplomats have gotten into the act. The Japanese Embassy in Washington posted on social media three Swift song titles, including “Speak Now,” “Fearless” and “Red,” in time for the Super Bowl.
“If he leaves Tokyo the evening after his concert, he should conveniently arrive in Las Vegas before the start of the Super Bowl,” it said.
Takahashi, a fan at the Tokyo Dome, was aware of the criticism Swift has faced over her private jets, but said the singer was unfairly singled out.
“Many other people fly for business and she's here for work. She faces an attack because she's famous and stands out,” Takahashi said.
Donna Gells' son Travis Gells may be playing in the Super Bowl, but that doesn't mean he's getting any special spots.
Swift is touring the world this week.
Before coming to Asia, he attended the Grammy ceremony in Los Angeles, winning his 14th Grammy and fourth album of the year award for “Midnights”. About 17 million people watched the show. He also made a surprise announcement that his next album is ready for release in April.
Then four concerts in Tokyo, and now back to the States. He followed Kelce for most of the Chiefs' season.
Swift is expected to fly to Australia this weekend to continue her tour.
“This week has been a really great mess,” she posted on Instagram on Wednesday.
