Nicholas Jordan Suspect in Double Shooting at University of Colorado – Colorado Springs Detention Center

A 25-year-old student believed to be responsible for shooting two people inside a dorm room on the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs campus has been arrested. Police in Colorado Springs announced the arrest of Nicholas Jordan Monday morning in Colorado Springs.

Authorities said the suspect and victim knew each other. The Colorado Springs Police Department said it was “not a random attack against other students at the school or university.”

24 year old male and 26 year old female was found dead with gunshot wounds early Friday at Crestone House in the Alpine Village area. They were Identified over the weekend Samuel Knapp, an enrolled UCCS student from Parker, and Celie Rain Montgomery of Pueblo.

Jordan is from Detroit and enrolled as a student at UCCS, school spokesman Chris Valentine said. Police said they had warrants for his arrest Friday evening on two counts of first-degree murder. He was spotted by police officers near the 4900 block of Cliff Point Circle East Monday morning and arrested during a traffic stop and booked into the El Paso County Jail. His arrest photo has not been released yet.

CSPD said their investigation is active. They are asking anyone who has information about the crime that could help detectives and has not yet spoken to police to contact them at (719) 444-7000. A vigil was held on the University of Colorado – Colorado Springs campus on Monday, February 19, 2024, after two students were killed in a shooting and another was arrested and charged with murder.

The university is planning what it calls a “healing march” in the Roaring Fork dining hall on Monday at 2 p.m. UCCS Principal Jennifer Chobanette, Student Body President Axel Brown and UCCS Police Chief Dwayne McCarver gave remarks.

The UCCS campus is located on Austin Bluffs Parkway in northeast Colorado Springs. It is one of four universities in the University of Colorado system. Others are in Boulder, Denver, and Aurora (University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus).
