Jonathan Majors charged with assault and harassment – Variety

Jonathan Majors was arraigned Sunday on multiple assault and harassment charges, according to the Manhattan DA’s office.

In the complaint, the unnamed female accuser says the defendant “struck her in the face with an open hand, causing significant pain and a scratch behind her ear.” He also claims he “put his hand on the neck, causing bruising and considerable pain”.

Majors was arrested Saturday in Manhattan in connection with a “domestic dispute.” He was charged with multiple counts of assault in the third degree, three counts of attempted assault in the third degree, one count of aggravated harassment in the second degree and one count of harassment in the second degree.

The DA’s office says a judge released Majors on his own recognizance and provided a limited defense.

His attorney denied the claims, saying “Jonathan Majors is completely innocent and may have been the victim of an argument with a woman he knew.” His criminal lawyer Priya Chaudhary added, “We are rapidly gathering evidence and submitting it to the District Collector with the expectation that all charges will be dropped immediately.”

Chaudhary also says there is video footage of the vehicle where the incident allegedly took place, testimonies from the driver and bystanders, and two written statements from the woman denying the allegations.

A representative for Majors also denied the allegations. “He’s done nothing wrong,” his publicist said Variety week end. “We look forward to clearing his name and clearing this.”

Majors recently appeared in “Creed III” and “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantummania.” He also won acclaim for “Magazine Dreams,” which premiered at Sundance and was acquired by Searchlight Pictures. Releasing on Dec. 8.
