Clarenville RCMP say a 44-year-old man was struck and killed by a tractor trailer about 6:30 a.m. today near George’s Brook, about five kilometres north of the Trans Canada Highway.
The pedestrian, who was reportedly in the roadway, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the tractor trailer, which was headed north on Route 230, was not physically injured.
Nest of kin have been notified, but the identity of the deceased will not be released to the public, out of respect for the family.
The incident is still under investigation by RCMP Traffic Services.
The road, which was closed following the accident, has now been reopened.
