Baie Verte RCMP say they intend to make their presence known in Burlington this weekend during The Gathering festival, however, based on past experience, they’re expecting a quiet weekend.
“We’ve never received a call related to The Gathering, and we’re hoping this year is going to be no different,” said Cpl. Justin Hewlett.
He and his fellow officers were pleased last year when large crowds at the festival’s concerts were cordial and sensible, rather than causing some of the disturbances known in other major festivals.
“I think the nature of The Gathering is a big factor – it’s more of a family event, and the people who attend aren’t the kind we have to be overly concerned about,” he said.
The Gathering is also a dry festival – which means alcohol isn’t available for purchase at any events, and isn’t permitted on the Gathering grounds during the weekend either.
Despite that, though, Hewlett says they’re going to be active in patrol throughout the weekend, however they don’t have any planned checkpoints scheduled.
Hewlett says as always, if people do choose to drink, don’t drive, and do it responsibly.
