Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for possible heavy rainfall along Newfoundland's south coast from Port aux Basques to Cape Race.
An Environment Canada map shows the area of the province expected to get heavy rainfall today and tonight.
The weather office says an area of rain over the southwest will spread across the island today. The rain may be heavy at times along the south coast from Port aux Basques to Cape Race.
Environment Canada says 10 to 20 millimeters of rain is expected in these areas today and tonight, with the potential for locally heavy downpours to develop, giving higher amounts of up to 40 millimeters over some areas.
The weather office says there's some uncertainty as to where the heaviest rain will track, and as a result forecasts may be modified as the system approaches.
The public is advised to monitor future forecasts and warnings as warnings may be required or extended. Detailed weather information can be found online at Environment Canada at www.weatheroffice.gc.ca.
