Barry Austin Morningstar, 21, is alleged to have committed an armed robbery at a private residence, and faces eight charges in connection with the incident.

Investigators have been reluctant to provide specific details, but a “small amount of cash” was taken during the robbery.

Officers would not say whether there were injuries, but a heavy police presence was observed in the Conception Bay North community.

The warrant authorizing the arrest of Morningstar list eight charges. They include the following: assault with weapon, two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, two charges of pointing a firearm, robbery with a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm, and using a firearm in the commission of an indictable offence.

RCMP Sgt. Greg Hicks declined to say what type firearm was involved.

Officers with both the RCMP and the RNC are searching for Morningstar.

When asked why the accused has not yet been taken into custody, Hicks replied: “He does not want to be found.”

Hicks said the search is a “very high priority,” and cautioned that law enforcement is especially concerned when firearms are used in the commission of an offence.

Police believe Morningstar is in the St. John’s area, and describe him as about five-feet, 10 inches tall, with a thin build, brown hair and brown eyes. He has a tattoo on his left forearm with the word “Morning” and a star near the elbow.

Hicks confirmed he is “Aboriginal in appearance.”

Morningstar has also been known to use the following aliases: Larr, Larr Pitts and Mark Fowlow.

The RCMP is seeking the public’s help in locating Morningstar. Anyone with information can contact the Trinity Conception RCMP at 709-596-5014 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
