The generosity of donors in Central Newfoundland has made the purchase of another piece of equipment possible for the benefit of patients, and long term care residents served throughout Green Bay.

A multitude of donations were received by the South and Central Health Foundation to support the purchase of a new Wheelchair Washer for patients at the Green Bay Community Health Centre and long term care residents at Valley Vista Senior Citizens Home, as well as their visitors.

This brand new equipment arrived recently at a cost of over $13,000. This is the first time a Health Centre in Central Newfoundland has had the benefit of this efficient and highly effective equipment. Many organizations partnered to bring this valuable support item to the people of Green Bay including the Green Bay Health Centre Auxiliary, the Lioness Club of Springdale, the Springdale Community Development Corporation and J. Brett Holdings Ltd.

It is the latest development in infectious disease control for wheelchairs, walkers, shower stools and other small, personal care items. With the push of a button seating and mobility items placed within the specialized washer are sanitized in just 5 minutes. This is twenty times faster than the process can be done by hand! Melinda Noel, Central Health Director of Health Services - Green Bay, states that the new equipment is part of Central Health's ongoing commitment to high quality patient and resident care at their health facilities.
