It was a day of sharing love during the Valentines story time theme at the Springdale Public Library last week.
As the children entered dressed in red they were greeted by the Queen of Hearts (Librarian Judy) with a dress covered in pink and red hearts, and a gold crown with red stones.

The Queen of Hearts gathered the children to talk about sharing their love to celebrate Valentines day, telling them this could be done by just a hug, saying 'I love you' or just by doing something nice for someone.

She proceeded to read a story call "I Love you Stinky Face" which the children all loved and laughed as it was read.

Valentines songs were sung and a heart craft was made by all. A scavenger hunt of valentine hearts with points on them were hidden around the library and the children and their parents had to had to find them. The parent/child team with the most points won. The winner was Jaden Butt and his mom Tina.

The story time children didn't have to bring any Valentines or treats for their friends this year. Instead they all got to share their love they have in their tiny hearts by bring in a toonie for a little Springdale girl, Mercedes Rideout, daughter of Victoria and Robbie who has to visit the Janeway on a regular basis for medical reasons.

Mercedes, and her Mom and Dad came for a short visit with the children, giving the storytime kids a chance to meet Mercedes and ask any questions they might have.

Librarian Judy presented Mercedes with a big red Valentine Card with all the toonies attached, personally signed by the children.

The lucky Valentine sucker game was played followed by a Valentine lunch.

After lunch the children got to spend a bit of time with Mercedes. As they were leaving The Queen of Hearts shared her love by putting on extra red lipstick and giving the children a "red lipstick" kiss. Some children came for seconds!

The storytime children were so overjoyed and had so much fun sharing their love that they have inside of their tiny hearts to celebrate Valentine's Day 2014.

Good article. Beyond chocolates and flowers, what is the REAL message of Valentine's Day? I wrote an essay about it:
