CORNER BROOK  The Greater Corner Brook Board of Trade is looking for a matchmaker.

Someone who understands business, has experience in supplier development and the bidding process and someone with good communication skills.

Sharon McLennon, first vice-president of the board, said the search is part of a supplier development project the board has undertaken with support from the City of Corner Brook, Town of Deer Lake, Town of Stephenville and the Deer Lake Chamber of Commerce.

She said the aim of the project is to assist west coast companies to participate in potential supply opportunities for larger-scale projects.

Major projects have been on the agenda for a number of years, and she points to activity with Emera, Hebron, Nalcor, Muskrat Falls, Vale and Long Harbour as just some of the opportunities that are out there.

“But we haven’t seen a lot of activity by business owners here to be able to access those major projects,” said McLennon.

She said the board wants to change that by hiring a consultant to assist companies to develop profiles and determine their entry level into the supply chain, conduct research on specific opportunities and research the procurement processes and requirements for each of the major contractors and sub-contractors.

“To bring the information, the knowledge and the handholding to any interested business in this region that wants to learn how to access those major project opportunities,” she said.

“And hopefully the measures of the success will be more of our businesses looking and understanding how to bid on different projects.”

Anyone interested in the consultant position has until Jan. 24 to contact the board for more information and a project overview and until Jan. 31 to submitted a proposal.

The board plans to have someone in place by Feb. 21 and the project is scheduled to run to Feb. 28, 2015.
