SPRINGDALE, NL — The host Springdale and District Braves went winless in the Bantam F provincial tournament last week.
Facing a winless record and a 3-0 deficit to Bell Island going into the third period in its final game, the Braves dug deep looking for a win for the hometown fans. They had only scored once to that point in the tournament, but Madison Roswell gave them some hope with 8 minutes to play.
Rowsell’s goal, on an assist from Captain Joey Morgan, pulled Springdale within two goals. Unfortunately, Zach Mercer of Bell Island restored the three-goal margin just 11 seconds later. Mercer and Zach Smallwood would score twice each in the victory.
Shawn Paddock gave the Braves one more glimmer of hope with a goal with just over three minutes to play, but the final score would remain 4-2.
Northeast 8, Springdale 1
Shawn Paddock of Springdale broke the shutout with a minute and 21 seconds left in an 8-1 loss to Northeast in the tournament opener. Lee Paddock paved the way with three goals for Northeast in the victory.
Fogo 7, Springdale 0
Alex Rowe scored four times to lead Fogo over Springdale.
Avalon 5, Springdale 0
Josh Collins scored twice to help propel Avalon over the host Braves teams.
Northeast 7, Fogo 1 (championship game)
Joshua Moyles of Northeast scored the championship game’s first two goals, while Jesse Short of Fogo responded with one in the first period. However, it was all Northeast after that.
Dylan Hillier and Jordan Buffit each scored to open a 4-1 lead after two periods of play. Lee Paddock, Devin Stuart and Hillier again scored in the third to clinch the title.

Baie Verte wins Atom championship
The Baie Verte Sabres defeated Bonavista 3-2 in the championship game at the Atom Mega tournament in Grand Falls-Windsor.
The Sabres had three wins and two ties in the tournament to that point, including a 3-3 tie with the same Bonavista team in its previous game. Baie Verte tied Avalon 4-4 in its first game, then had wins of 7-0 over Bishop’s Falls, 4-3 over Bay D-Espoir, and 5-0 over Harbour Grace.
Springdale at Atom D in Lewisporte
The Springdale and District Braves lost 4-2 to Conception Bay Regional in the semi-final game of the Atom D tournament in Lewisporte.
The Braves had two wins, a tie and a loss to that point in the tournament. They tied host Lewisporte at 2 in the tournament opener, followed by a 9-5 win over Twillingate, a 4-2 loss to Deer Lake, and a 3-1 win over Saint-Pierre.
Springdale at Atom K in Trinity Placentia
Springdale finished out of the playoffs with a 1-3 record in the Atom K provincial tournament in Trinity Placentia. The Braves lost to Northeast 8-2 in the opener, before earning a 6-0 shutout win over Trinity Placentia. Unfortunately, they could not keep the momentum going and fell 10-1 to Churchill Falls and 12-2 to Paradise.
Green Bay South at Atom G in Corner Brook
Green Bay South lost 8-0 to St. John’s in the semi-final of the Atom G in Corner Brook. The team had two wins, a loss and a tie in the round robin.
Green Bay South lost 6-4 to Botwood in the tournament opener, before tying Torngat Mountains 2-2. The team hit their stride in the next two games, a 7-1 win over Marystown and a 12-2 victory over Corner Brook.
Springdale wins championship in PeeWee H in Botwood
The Springdale and District Braves downed Northeast 5-1 in the championship game of the PeeWee H in Botwood.
The Braves went undefeated in the tournament with wins over Conception Bay Regional (7-4), Notheast (8-3), Botwood (6-2), Bay Arena (5-1), and St. John’s (11-1).
Green Bay South at PeeWee Mega in Gander
Green Bay South took home the silver medal in the PeeWee Mega tournament division 2 after a 5-1 loss to Beothic in the championship game.
The team went 4-1 in the round robin, with its only defeat coming to the same Beothic team by a score of 5-2. They had two wins over Torngat Mountains 5-2 and 5-1 and also defeated Grand Falls-Windsor 2-0 and Gander 2-1.
Springdale at Midget I in Marystown
The Springdale and District Braves earned silver at the Midget I provincial tournament in Marystown, losing the championship game 5-1 to the host team.
Marystown was the only team able to beat the Braves in the tournament, also defeating them 9-0 in the round robin. Springdale defeated Labrador West 9-1, Paradise 5-4, Goulds 3-0 and Fogo 9-1.
