The next UFC fight card in Nova Scotia will have a distinct Newfoundland feel to it.

Scheduled for Feb. 19 at the Scotiabank Centre in Halifax, the card will feature the only two mixed martial arts fighters from Newfoundland and Labrador with the promotion.

Newly minted UFC featherweight Gavin Tucker (9-0-0) will make his debut when he squares off with veteran fighter Sam Sicilia (15-7-0). Tucker is a native of Ship Cove, but trains and fights out of Halifax.

The Titan MMA product signed his contract with the promotion recently.

Meanwhile, Grand Falls-Windsor native Ryan Janes (9-1-0) — who fights out of Vancouver — will make his second appearance with the UFC.

Fresh off a unanimous decision victory over Keith Berish at UFC Fight Night in Albany, N.Y. on Dec 9, Janes will meet Gerald Meerschaert (25-8-0) at the event.

The Halfiax card is headlined by a heavyweight clash between Derrick Lewis and Travis Browne. Originally, Junior Dos Santos and Stefan Struve were scheduled to meet, but the 11 h ranked Struve was forced to pull out due to shoulder surgery.

Co-main eventing the night is a fight featuring Canadian middleweight Elias Theodorou and Brazilian Cezar Ferriera.

Other fights scheduled include a scrap between middleweights Johnny Hendricks and Hector Lombard, as well as women’s bout between former 135lbs contenders Sara McMann and Liz Carmouche.

In total, there are 11 fights scheduled for the event.
