MMA fighter Kimbo Slice is dead at 42.

A fighter known as much for his vicious presence in the ring as for his gentle demeanor outside of it died Monday, according to a statement from Bellator MMA.

Balloter CEO Scott Coker said, “We are all shocked and saddened by the devastating and untimely loss of Kimbo Slice, a beloved member of the Bellator family.  One of the most popular MMA fighters ever,  Kimbo was a charismatic, larger-than-life personality that transcended the sport.”

Unconfirmed reports say Slice died from heart failure, and police are saying there was no foul play suspected in the death.

Born in the Bahamas, Kevin Ferguson, nicknamed Kimbo as a child, became famous for unsanctioned street fights distributed through the Internet. He was 42.
