Marine Atlantic cancels Wednesday crossings

Marine Atlantic has cancelled all crossings for Wednesday as a winter storm passes through the region.

Passengers scheduled to depart Port aux Basques on Wednesday at 11:45 a.m. and 11:45 p.m. are now scheduled to leave Thursday at 11:45 a.m.

The crossing from North Sydney scheduled to leave at 11:45 p.m. is now scheduled to depart at 11:45 a.m. on Thursday.

A commercial vehicle crossing from North Sydney scheduled for Wednesday has been cancelled.

Check-in time for the rescheduled crossings remains two hours before departure.

Passengers can contact the Marine Atlantic reservation line for updates on crossings. The number is 1-800-341-7981.

Some of the ferries connecting communities on the southwest coast are also off their runs as the storm moves through.

According to the Department of Transportation and Works, the Marine Voyager connecting Francois, Grey River and Burgeo is stormbound in Francois. The department's website currently lists the ferry as in service but off schedule.

The Challenge One connecting Rose Blanche and La Poile is out of service and stormbound in La Poile.

The Gallipoli connecting Ramea, Grey River and Burgeo is also stormbound.

Environment Canada has issued several warnings for the Cabot Strait and parts of Newfoundland's southwest coast.

That includes a high water level warning for the Newfoundland coastline that is part of the Cabot Strait marine area, more specifically for Port aux Basques and east towards Burgeo.

A wind warning is in place as well, warning of winds between 48 and 63 knots in the strait. There is also a freezing spray warning in effect.
