Man sentenced in child porn case

A Lewin's Cove man has been sentenced in Grand Bank provincial court after facing several charges related to child pornography.

The Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit (CFSEU – NL) began an investigation in April of 2015 after identifying a user who was sharing and viewing child pornographic images over the Internet.

The man was charged with possession of child pornography, distribution of child pornography and, as a result of an incident that occurred during the search of the residence, he was also charged with assaulting two police officers and resisting arrest.

On Monday in Grand Bank provincial court, the 50-year-old was sentenced to 21 months in jail as well as two years probation upon his release. He is also subject to a DNA order, registration as a sex offender for 20 years, and several other restrictions under the Criminal Code.

CFSEU – NL is an integrated investigative unit consisting of members from both the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary in Newfoundland and Labrador.
