Visitation is limited at the Baie Verte Peninsula Health Centre to help reduce the spread of respiratory illness, according to Central Health.

There are a number of influenza like illnesses (ILI) circulating in the community. Central Health has confirmed there have been some lab-confirmed cases of influenza (flu) at the hospital, but other respiratory viruses may also be present.

“It is routine infection control practices to limit visitation when illnesses that easily spread from person to person are circulating (e.g. respiratory illnesses or gastrointestinal illnesses),” a Central Health spokesperson stated via email.

Only one visitor at a time is permitted for each patient or resident, and all visitors must be at least 14 years of age. Visitors are asked to wash their hands after arriving and before leaving the health centre.

The precaution was implemented today and will remain in place until further notice.

People who have family members staying at the Baie Verte Peninsula Health Centre, and have questions about these visitation precautions, can call 532-4281 and ask to speak with the nurse in charge.
