Retired Cpl. Dave MacKenzie’s cross-Canada bike tour to raise funds and awareness for the Canadian Cancer Society is winding down.

Newfoundland and Labrador RCMP Commanding Officer Peter Clark welcomed MacKenzie to the St. John’s area earlier this morning.

MacKenzie, who worked as an RCMP in British Columbia and retired with 35 years of service, began his trip in Cowichan Bay on Vancouver Island on May 18. He will finish the trek in Saint John, N.B. on Aug.19.

He has raised more than $25,000 since beginning the tour and has been supported on the trip by his wife, Sherry, a cancer survivor.
