GANDER, NL – The appointment of an independent mediator has failed to bring a resolution to the labour dispute between DJ Composites and its Gander employees represented by Unifor Local 597.
According to the provincial government, Advanced Education, Skills and Labour Minister Al Hawkins has received John Roil’s report.
“It is unfortunate that a resolution has not been reached and the dispute continues,” Hawkins said in a news release on Monday.
The report is being reviewed and has been provided to both parties. It will be made available to the public once DJ Composites and the union have looked over the document.
The department has provided conciliation services in the dispute since August 2016.
Roil was engaged as an independent meditor on Oct. 27, with the two sides urged to make a determined effort to bring an end to the dispute.
On Nov. 10, Roil advised that a settlement had not been achieved and an extension to the filing of the report was granted at the request of both sides.
“With the submission of the report, Mr. Roil’s appointment has concluded. We will continue to monitor the situation, maintaining contact with both parties,” Hawkins said.
“They have been advised that the services of the department remain available should they wish to avail of them.”
