Junior and senior squads participate in provincials

Two Clarenville Cheerleading Squads, the seniors and juniors, participated in the NLCA Provincial Championships at the Jack Byrne Arena in Torbay on May 24.

For the senior squad, this was their third year participating. They have

been awarded with banners for the past two years, and brought home a banner

last year from Cheer Expo at Nationals in Halifax.

This year the junior team, consisting of only grade 7 athletes, came home with a first place banner in the Junior Division. Their coach and teacher sponsor, Sabrina Andrews, said the cheerleaders were all very excited and

enjoyed every minute of the competition.

There are now 35 members participating in the cheerleading sport, she said, noting

the girls practice two times a week.

“It takes dedication and team commitment to be on a cheerleading squad and the benefits of being part of a team are what make it so worthwhile and memorable,” she said.
