Zachary Hoskins is enjoying some early success for the Chase Heat of the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL) in British Columbia.
The Marystown native, a son of Tony and Ruby Hoskins, is currently listed as the ‘Who’s Hot in the KI’ player on the league’s website (‘www.kijhl.ca’), after registering four points, including a hat trick, against the Creston Valley Thunder Cats Oct. 6.
It gave Hoskins six points – four goals and two assists – in nine games on the season.
Listed at six foot, two inches tall and 200 pounds, the 18-year-old forward wrapped up his Marystown Minor Hockey Association career last spring and graduated from the French immersion program with honours at Marystown Central High in June.
After being scouted that same month, Hoskins attended training camp in B.C. in August and was signed as a rookie import by the Heat.
The KIJHL has been in operation since 1967 and boasts many former players continuing on in the sport in various capacities since its inception.
Current NHL players Cody Franson of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Shea Weber of the Nashville Predators are among the most notable.
