Successful year for GBS Minor Hockey

It has been another successful year for the GBS Minor Hockey Association. During the past Easter week, Hockey Newfoundland and Labrador ran the Provincial tournaments through many host communities all across the Province. During April 9th, 10th and 11th, the GBS Midget team competed in Stephenville for the Midget “D” Provincial Banner. With only one loss in the round robin to the Bishop’s Falls Express, the GBS Wildcats faced the Bishop’s Express again in the final. This time however the outcome was different as the GBS wildcats skated to a 5-2 victory claiming the Provincial “D” banner.During the 12th, 13th, and 14th, The Atom GBS Wildcats competed in Bishop’s Falls in the Atom “G” tournament where they finished 3rd overall, to capture the Bronze medalAlso during this time GBS Minor Hockey was host to the Bantam “G” Provincial Tournament. Two teams, GBS Wildcats and Gander Flyers, finished the round robin with a 4-0-1 record. The tie coming against each other as they played to a 3-3 draw on the last day of the round robin. However, with the support of a packed stadium, the GBS Wildcats proved too much for the Flyers and claimed the Provincial “G” title with a 5-2 win.The GBS Minor Hockey Association would like to thank the Town of Triton, all the sponsors, all the volunteers and the great fans of the Green Bay South area for the support this past hockey season. They would also like to thank Wade and Nancy Winsor for presenting the Bantam “G” Provincial winning GBS Wildcats with the Jonah Winsor Memorial trophy. Submitted photo
