It has been an exciting month of table tennis action at Indian River High. The school competed at the Regional Qualifier at Dorset Collegiate on February 11th. The team performed extremely well placing first in the team encounter. Individual competition results were gold for Nick Buckle in boy’s singles, gold for Hannah Pollard in girl’s singles, gold for Joey Oxford and Emily Edison in mixed doubles, silver for Katie McKay and Kristie MacDonald in girl’s doubles and silver for Zachary Harvey and Christian Pelley in boy’s doubles. The male sportsmanship award for the tournament was awarded to Nick Buckle.
After the highly successful qualifier, the team attended the Provincial Competition held February 24 - 25 at Heritage Collegiate in Lethbridge. The competition was stiff but IRH placed first in the round robin competition. The playoff game between IRH and Jane Collins Academy was hard fought and saw Jane Collins taking three games to IRH’s two games. In the final analysis, IRH were awarded the silver medal in the team encounter. Well done team!
Saturday was reserved for individual competition. Zachary and Christian earned the right to compete in Boy’s Doubles and fought hard. They were in a three way tie for third but lost the bronze on points. Emily Edison and Joey Oxford also competed on Saturday and were awarded the bronze medal.
IRH Table Tennis Team would like to give a huge thank you to coach Denise Simms for all the time she spent practicing with the team. It is certainly appreciated.
