BAIE VERTE -
Young bowlers were awarded for their abilities on May 27.
The Youth Bowling Council (YBC), program had 56 bowlers take part this year and awarded participants from all divisions for their progress over last season.
"We had a great year with the bowlers doing very well," said program co-ordinator Janice Acreman. "Participation in the various tournaments throughout the year was great, and the Four Steps to Stardom Zones and Provincials went quite good.
"We hosted a portion of the provincial tournament and from all accounts, from the other centres that participated, it was a lot of fun."
This year bowlers who didn't miss a week of bowling had the opportunity to win a set of new bowling balls. The winner was Terri-Lynn Baggs.
"She got to pick out the bowling balls of her choice and they also have her initials engraved in them," said Ms. Acreman. "We are hoping that this will encourage more of the bowlers to not miss any bowling."
Ms. Acreman said the support of the program has been phenomenal and fundraisers are needed to keep the program going.
"Two people who have helped us with two big fundraisers this past year have been Sheila and staff, who sponsored our fundraiser at the Marina and field during the Spree by the Sea event last summer, and Bernita Chislett, who helped with the Texas Hold'em fundraiser this season," said Ms. Acreman. "Their support of Youth Bowling is greatly appreciated by the bowlers and coaches."
