Dear Editor:
I was resting in my bed after a hot bath to sooth my aching body, when I heard Kathy Dunderdale on the radio spouting off about her government’s layoffs.
Needless to say, my rest was short- lived and I sprung up and ranted on. Reminds me of Grade 11 history and Louis XIV and absolute monarchy.
This is a government with no conscience and they will proceed as they see fit. Almost like divine rule.
Jerome Kennedy struts around like he is the only person who has it right to adjust our budget, as he surely has all the answers. What’s in that briefcase, I wonder? Maybe a $ 1,000 Superman comic that most people could care less about. Hmm!
An oil- rich province laying off employees is an act of a government with absolutely no conscience.
Whether they are pencil pushers or not, they deserve better than being put on that paltry government pension.
Yes, Kathy, they have spouses and children to feed, and you say that you can understand the hardships. Can you? How would you feel, with hungry mouths to feed?
But you care about these people so some will get a severance package and of course we can always offload the expense to the feds with EI.
These people will be the rest of their lives playing catch- up.
Seems to me that a slight income tax increase with an absolute time limit, could arrest some of the problems. Yes, yes, a time limit. Make sure if you can that the paper puts it on the front page. And then a rollback after a certain time. How much would we need - .5 per cent, one per cent?
And give us a firm time as to when you will roll back that increase. How much revenue would that create? Bet you sure as hell, the people won’t reelect you if you don’t roll it back!
ABC.
