Quebec and Muskrat Falls

Dear Editor,

Thank you for allowing me space in your paper to get this off my chest. In the past, some of our local politicians have made it a habit of bad-mouthing Quebec; while some of it may be justified, it gets us nowhere as it relates to hydro generating and transmitting electricity to Quebec.

Quebec Hydro’s expertise is world renown – they are one of the best in the world. Countries from all over the world send people to Quebec Hydro for training, including Russia. Myself, and a few Newfoundlanders, were fortunate enough to attend classes put on by Quebec Engineers.

Before we come down heavy on Quebec, we should know whom we are dealing with. For example, when the Upper Churchill contract ends in 2041, Quebec will still be in the driver’s seat. Newfoundland and Labrador will own a power plant only; Quebec owns the power lines, and most of the customers. Newfoundland will have to hold its nose and do business with Quebec then, so why not now?

We may not get all that we want, but anything is better than this crazy proposed Maritime route.

Did you notice how Quebec is so silent on the Muskrat Falls Project? They are sitting back laughing, waiting for our politicians to fall flat on their collective faces.
