Holy Cross Crusaders take Challenge Cup

Holy Cross Kirby Group Crusaders blanked St. Lawrence Labatt Laurentians 2-0 to win the 2014 Molson Challenge Cup soccer championship before a crowd estimated at 1,800 at King George V Park in St. John’s Sunday.

Matthew Breen, who was named the game’s most valuable player, and Ryan Yetman scored second-half goals for the Crusaders. Thomas Pieroway posted the shutout.

Holy Cross will now represent Newfoundland and Labrador at the national soccer championship in Vaughan, Ont., Oct. 8-13.
