$1.2 million for capital works in Bonavista-South

Yesterday, at the Bonavista Fire Hall, Minister of Municipal and Intergovernmental Affairs Dan Crummell, joined by Bonavista-South MHA Glen Little, announced $1.2 million in funding for infrastructure projects in the region.

In Bonavista, $790,000 will be used to complete a water distribution system analysis and finalize upgrades to the town’s water system.

Trinity Bay North will receive $338,000 to construct a new bridge, and Elliston will use $97,000 to upgrade its pump control and leak detection system for the town.

The funding is cost-shared, meaning the provincial government will provide 80 percent of the funding with the town of Bonavista providing the remaining 20 percent.

In the case of Trinity Bay North and Elliston, the government funds 90 percent, while the towns contribute 10.

In the 2014 budget, $200 million was allocated for a three-year program for municipal infrastructure projects.
