Police canvass Paradise neighbourhood

Police officers were going door to door for information after a dead body was found Monday morning lying on the gravel in a yet-to-be-developed portion of a Paradise subdivision.
Const. Steve Curnew of the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary confirmed it was a man's body, but did not go into any detail about how old the man may have been or how long the body may have been there.

While these details have not been confirmed by police, the body appears to be that of a young man. Drenched in morning sunlight Monday, blood was visible on his face. He was lying on his back.

Police are treating the case as a sudden death, according to Curnew.

"All sudden deaths are treated the same until the autopsy is done to tell us what the cause of death is, so (whether it's) suspicious or natural causes, we can't say at this time."

Curnew said he expects the autopsy will be completed by today at the latest. Forensics, patrol officers, police dogs and the RNC's major crimes unit were in the area in the afternoon. Police tape and patrol cars were used to block the public from the area officers were focusing their attention on.

The St. John's Regional Fire Department contacted the RNC shortly after 8:30 a.m. Monday about the discovery of the body.

The subdivision on Seascape Road is partially developed, with many houses newly built or still under construction. The area where the body was found had freshly paved roads but was otherwise undeveloped. The road connects to St. Thomas Line.

Curnew said police will continue to secure the scene where the body was found until the results of the autopsy are known.
