The RCMP Glovertown detachment is investigating a drowning of a 23-year-old man in Mint Brook near Gambo on Friday.
The RCMP said in a news release the man was participating in a recreational outing with several friends when he suddenly went under water while swimming. His death is not considered suspicious.
His friends were able to pull him out and notify emergency services. Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) was performed on scene, while in the ambulance to the hospital and further treatment was attempted at the James Paton Memorial Hospital in Gander. Unfortunately, the man could not be revived.
The RCMP has not released the man’s name. The police force is reminding the public that safety around waterways can be significantly improved by the use of personal floatation devices.
