Fraud charges date back over a decade

An ongoing legal case involving criminal charges against former attorney William J. Parsons and his practice in Mount Pearl was called in provincial court in St. John's this morning.

Scales of justice

The case was quickly set over, scheduled to be called again July 7.

Parsons is facing multiple charges of fraud and one count of conspiracy to commit an indictable offense, covering a four-year period from January 2000 to May 2004.

He was disbarred prior to the criminal charges being laid.

The criminal charges against him have not been proven in court.

An RCMP investigation led to charges against him and, in 2012, the same charges were laid against the co-founders of Myles-Leger Ltd, Randy Clarke and Bill Clarke, as well as that company's comptroller Terence Reardon. Parsons acted as attorney on real estate transactions for that company.

The charges against the Clarkes and Reardon are also still before the court.
