Labrador Grenfell Health CEO Tony Wakeham announces Echocardiogram Services will be coming to the Northern Peninsula and Labrador.
Labrador-Grenfell Health (LGH) CEO Tony Wakeham took to the podium at Curtis Memorial Hospital to announce that provincial government has allocated more than half a million dollars to bring Echocardiogram services to the Northern Peninsula and Labrador.
Echocardiograms are diagnostic test for cardiology services used to diagnose and manage patients with heart disease.
According to a Department of Health and Community Services press release, the service will reduce the amount of travel outside of the region to receive this service.
Wakeham said the allocated funds will be used to purchase needed equipment and hire a full time technician to service the regions of St. Anthony, Happy Valley-Goose Bay, and Labrador West.
LGH will immediately advertise for the position, and is hoping to have the service up and running by early Fall.
