RCMP in Baie Verte says an intoxicated man walked into a woman’s home in Middle Arm earlier this week, in what cops are calling an isolated incident.
The occurrence happened in the evening, and the elderly woman was home alone at the time. She discovered the man in her house after he had apparently entered through the door, which was unlocked at the time. It is unclear how long the man was in the house before the woman discovered him.
Startled, the woman retreated to a room in her home where she was able to make contact with family members via her computer.
Police say the man was largely intoxicated at the time of the incident, and was unaware of his actions until afterwards. Family members were able to come to the aid of the woman and remove the man from the home.
RCMP says the man has apologized to the woman, and no charges are being laid. However, police did caution people, especially seniors, to take precautions when home alone, and when leaving a house unattended.
