Fishers in Green Bay are going to have to wait to get going on their crab fishing this season.

DFO annouced this week that the 2014 Snow Crab fishery in Crab Fishing Area

3C, which is in Green Bay, will be delayed in opening this year. The season will now open on May 5.

DFO says the decision was made at the request of the local inshore fish harvesters' committee. Heavy ice build-up in the area is the likely reason for the delay, however the decision will no doubt have economic impact on many families, as the delay in the season opening will mean EI claims will likely have run out before the season opens.
