After a well-fought contest, both teams meet for the handshake.

The Northeast Sabres met up with the Lewisporte Seahawks over the weekend in Baie Verte at the Tommy Ricketts Arena for the team’s last home game of the regular season of the Central Newfoundland Hockey League.

The first-placed Sabres walked away from Saturday and Sunday’s games with a pair of easy wins against the Seahawks, who are in third place with twelve points, tied with the Twillingate Combines.

The Sabres trampled the Seahawks with scores in double digits both games – coming out 11-2 on Saturday and 10-3 on Sunday in the Sabres favor.

Robert Robinson ended the game on Saturday with four points – including a hat trick. Robinson is second in the league in points, trailing only his fellow teammate, Jasper Dicks. Three other Sabres also round out half of the top 10 players in the league with Sabres Trenton Johanson, Jarvis Budgell and Mitch Goodyear also in the top five.

Sabres goalie Wayne Clarke is also leading the league between the pipes with a 3.00 Goals Against Average.

The Sabres, who lead the league with 11 wins, only one loss for a total of 22 points, are now headed on the road before entering the playoffs, which is nearly a sure thing, since no other team can match their points in the games remaining.

The team, which is made up of players from throughout the Emerald Zone and the region, will face off with Twillingate on their home ice on January 11 and 12. Following that, they’ll finish the season in Botwood on January 25 and 26.
