Early freeze up of coastal waters in many inlets and harbours along the Labrador coast has turned marine navigational aid buoys still in the water into possible dangerous objects for people travelling across the ice on snowmobiles.

The Department of Fisheries and Oceans is warning people travelling over sea ice in coastal Labrador to be cautious of the buoys.

Some of the buoys have not yet been recovered from the water and may not be visible to snowmobilers travelling in winter storm conditions.
