UPDATE: Armed standoff ends peacefully

A 27-year-old man was taken into custody by the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary, following a peaceful end to an armed standoff on Thorburn Road in St. John's.

The RNC responded to the incident around 11:15 a.m. Police officers were able to negotiate with the man and end the standoff.

Officers seized two firearms from the residence, but the RNC has not specified the type of firearms.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary is reporting that a man is barricaded in a house on Thorburn Road and is believed to be armed.

The incident is near the Outer Ring Road overpass.

    Most certainly charges should be laid to prevent it from happening again. Most definitely if the 27 yr old had a Gun. NL must realize that crime is over the top for this province and someone needs to say enough. Zero tolerance with these armed robberies violent and such. Use to be we would have to turn on Ont news because our news was so boring. Unfortunately that has changed. However the punishment to fit the crime in NL as usual HAS NOT
