A 31-year-old man was arrested this morning following an accident on Hamilton Avenue in St. John’s that involved two vehicles and saw the accused’s vehicle overturning in front of Barrett’s Funeral Home.

The accused, and his 19-year-old passenger, were transported to hospital with injuries believed to be non-life threatening.

The male driver and female passenger of the other vehicle were seen by paramedics at the scene.

The RNC says that shortly before 9:30 a.m. today, officers attempted to stop a blue Mazda Protégé in the area of Blackmarsh Road for a traffic violation. The vehicle did not stop for the RNC and officers discontinued the pursuit.

The same Mazda Protege was later seen travelling east in the area of Hamilton Avenue in St. John’s when it collided with a west-bound vehicle, and then overturned.

The accused has been charged for operating a motor vehicle while prohibited. The investigation is continuing and additional charges may follow.

RNC accident investigators are asking anyone who may have witnessed the Protégé in the area of Blackmarsh Road or Hamilton Avenue, or were in the immediate area at the time of the collision, to contact the RNC at 729-8000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Are you saying that was the cause of the crash? I say if he wasn't running away , he would not have crashed. Something to hide maybe?

Sure hope the BMW owner has insurance because I bet the person driving the Mazda does not! Probably owes many thousands and the only asset is not worth 5 cents! Lots of sidewalks will soon need snow clearing and I know just the ones to do it but of course that will never happen. Houston we have a problem!!
