A fire in the early hours of this morning destroyed a commercial building on Roberts Road in the Goulds area of St. John’s.

There were no injuries in the blaze.

The building was used partially as a welding shop.

The Goulds Volunteer Fire Department, the St. John's Regional Fire Department, and the RNC responded to the call about 2:45 a.m. Smoke and flame could be seen erupting from building about a quarter of a mile away.

As there was no fire hydrant in the immediate area, firefighters had to pump water from nearby Forest Pond.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and a fire investigator is on the scene today sifting through the rubble.
