The drowning victim found in the Bay of Islands Monday was a 17-year-old Ship Cove man.
The RCMP say the young man was reported missing from the Bay St. George area Monday. Their investigation also revealed a dory was stolen from the Black Duck Brook area, but police said it had yet to be confirmed if the boat was indeed the same.
Sgt. Marc Coloumbe said it is difficult to connect the two incidents without a witness.
The teen’s body was found floating in the water by boaters near Eagle Island Monday morning.
After a search of the area by the joint rescue co-ordination centre, a Cormorant helicopter and a coast guard vessel, the orange wooden boat was found wrecked on the rocks near the entrance to the Bay of Islands across from Pearl Island.
No other deceased or people in distress were found.
The name of the deceased is not being released by police. There are no other people reported missing. The investigation is continuing today.
