The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) in Corner Brook has charged a 26-year-old man from that city with assault in relation to an incident early Tuesday morning.

Around 1:30 a.m., officers with patrol services responded to an alleged assault in the area of Carmen Avenue. Police say an 18-year-old female victim sustained what is believed to be non–life threatening injuries that did not require medical attention.

The RNC said the victim and accused knew each other. The accused was located a short time later and arrested under the Detention of Intoxicated Persons Act. He was released to appear in provincial court on July 30.

Police are asking anyone with information in relation to this incident to contact the RNC at 709-637-4100 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-22-8477 (TIPS). People can also provide information anonymously at nlcrimestoppers.com.
