CORNER BROOK  The 13-year-old girl charged with assaulting her mother with a razor blade refused to agree with the conditions of her release Tuesday.

The girl, also facing charges of assault and damaging property after police were called to a Corner Brook residence Monday night, was held for another night in jail and is expected to have a bail hearing this afternoon.

Crown attorney Michael Fox was agreeing to release her under a number of conditions, despite the fact she previously received a suspended sentence in another province in relation to an incident of violence against her mother.

Because she didn’t agree with the conditions, she will now have a bail hearing to determine if she will be released.

If released, the judge who makes that decision will then impose whatever conditions he or she feels is appropriate. If she is refused bail, she will stay in jail until her criminal charges are dealt with in court.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary reported responding to a city residence at about 11 p.m. Monday. The victim received minor injuries, according to police.

I know nothing about this case, and I'm all for due punishment for crimes committed, but punishment without rehabilitation , especially for youth, is backwards and has no place in this day and age...effective punishment must go hand in hand with programming to resolve the circumstances that led to that crime being committed in the first place.

The youth justice Act is not tough enough on today's youth that is why they commit crimes over and over again because they get no consequences and just a slap on the wrist...

She blew her chance, keep her behind bars and feed her rice! Since when did we start giving people with criminal records options! By their own demise they've slide down the snakes back but want to use our ladders to get back up!
