The RNC/RCMP Street Level Drug Team executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act search warrant on a house in Deer Lake Monday.  Assisting in the search were Corner Brook drug section members, Deer Lake detachment members and a police service dog from Stephenville.

About 168 grams of marijuana, with a street value of $3,360 was seized as well as $1,880 in cash.

The accused was released on a promise to appear in court on Dec. 4.

I'm surprised the RCMP didn't quantify the seizure in terms of joints (as opposed to grams). What a costly farce! This is the taxpayers hard earned dollar at work and the expensive part has yet to begin. Shame on the RCMP and the government of Canada for perpetuating bêtise . . . and shame on the Telegram for allowing them to peddle it.

The war on drugs, in particular cannabis, is a total and utter failure and should never have been started in the first place. Arresting otherwise law-abiding, non-violent people is flushing my hard earned tax dollars down the toilet. How much did it cost me in RCMP time, and next the court time, for a small amount of cannabis ... further, I can think of few other activities that police do, that undermine their professional stature ... what next, have them clean the office tolilets! It is time to legalize and stop this nonsense ... cannabis has many very healthy benefits (despite the lies the government has been telling you) ... I encourage anyone reading this to do your own research and don't be duped by government propaganda -- get the book by Clint Werner, Marijuana: Gateway to Health and get the facts.

The police in this city constantly lie to the public about the estimated value of marijuana. They do this to make it seem like their efforts were worth the time when in most cases They would have spent well over $10,000 just to get a few hundred dollars worth of pot. For anyone curious the REAL estimated street value of that marijuana seized would be about $1500 give or take and thats a high estimate. The war on Marijuana has clearly failed on so many levels that police resort to lying to the public to keep it illegal. The simple fact is if it were legal half of the cops, and prison staff would be out of work and thats the real reason its still being fought. I fail to see how anyone who goes out and has a drink to relax can say that someone who does the same thing with a joint is wrong. Its called being a hypocrite .

That's not 3300 bucks worth of pot. Not even on the west coast. Why does the telegram let the police constantly lie about their "drug" busts. It's pot. They spent probably ten times that amount just trying to bust the stuff and it's harmless! What a joke! Legalize it already and stop this nonsense. Everyone in the polls seems to think that they have the right to their own bodies, shouldn't be forcing health care workers to get a flu shot... well then why can't we smoke a joint? Hypocrites!
