Recreation Newfoundland and Labrador is offering two scholarships for recreation students in a move to help increase the number of knowledgeable professional recreation leaders within the province.
President Tina Auchinleck-Ryan said in a news release, “With increased interest in recreation, especially physical activity, there is a growing need for more professional recreation leaders.”
Ryan said providing scholarships will help with obtaining more of these leaders.
The scholarships offered include a one-year membership in Recreation NL after graduation, one complimentary RNL conference registration and $500.
Blair Delaney, recreation practitioners/facilities representative for Recreation Newfoundland and Labrador said the organization is looking forward to receiving many encouraging applications for the scholarships and assisting interested students in reaching the level of expertise that they require.
“The scholarships support Recreation NL’s goals and mission,” Delaney said. “They are intended to ensure future quality leadership through the provision of financial support to emerging leaders who are enrolled in recreation studies.”
Recreation NL says students seeking a scholarship will display innovation in completed academic work pertaining to the recreation sector and be members of Recreation NL. They will also demonstrate commitment and leadership, to the recreation sector of the province.
Letters of support will be required, acknowledging accomplishments, awards and honors from within the recreation or volunteer-related sectors.
The deadline for the receipt of applications is Nov. 30.
Applicants should be forwarded to Recreation NL, P.O. Box 8700, St. John’s, NL, A1B 4J6.
