Salvation Army distributed $1.7 million to Igor victims

The Salvation Army distrubuted roughly $1.7 million to more than $1,300 families affected by hurricane Igor, which devastated the province in 2010.

The Newfoundland and Labrador division has released an independent audit by KPMG LLP chartered accountants on the Hurricane IGOR Relief Fund.

There is almost $65,000 left in the fund, mostly for not yet completed projects.

The Salvation Army donated $50,000 to the fund itself, reducing adminstration expenses to 1.58 per cent, the audit concluded.

The money was spent on household items, home renovation and wind damage for hurricane victims.

I absolutely do agree with W's post. Not only that, but look at the fantastic work they do Christmas with hampers and wrapping and distribution of gifts right up into Christmas Eve. And to accomplish this, they give up their time standing at Christmas Kettles day in and day out into the evenings for almost two months. They are there on a daily basis to cook and feed the down and out, and operate the Wiseman Center. I certainly do admire and respect and thank the Salvation Army.

You have to give the Salvation Army credit, whenever people are in need, either a big storm or a fire in a residential neighborhood, they are the first there to help out. At least their money goes to goodwill, or people who can use it.
