Johnathan Noel of Prosperity Wealth Management, Copperbelt Pioneers President Don Baker, Ernest Paddock of Springdale Lions, and Dave Snow representing both the Green Bay Search and Rescue, and Green Bay Rod and Gun Club pose with the last of 70 backpacks that were packed and ready for students returning to school this week. Donations were also received from Noble's Construction, Springdale Community Development Co-op, Baie Verte and Lascie Kinsmen, Bell Aliant local employees, as well as other friends of our club.
Summer is slowly coming to an end and that means Bell Aliant employees and retirees were busy working toward September and back to school. Every year, they deliver backpacks full of school supplies to children in our community who would simply not have them otherwise. Last year, the program distributed 64 backpacks to schools in the Green Ba /Baie Verte area. This year the loca Copperbelt Pioneers Club and Aliant employees have 70 bags packed and ready for distribution.
Educators say children who start the year off with everything they need have a better chance of success and begin the year with confidence. Since the program began in 2003, Backpacks for Kids has filled and delivered nearly 28,000 backpacks to communities in six provinces.
