Valmont Academy celebrates another successful year

On Thursday, June 21st Valmont Academy in King’s Point celebrated its athletic achievements with their annual Sports Awards Banquet. This year, Valmont hosted two provincial tournaments, while winning numerous banners, which includes qualifying tournament wins in boy’s volleyball, girl’s basketball, boy’s basketball, boy’s indoor soccer, and a provincial win in girl’s ball hockey. Valmont Academy also achieved Gold Star status for the fifth straight year; an award that was only handed out to 17 schools in the province this year.

Individual athletes were recognized in the following areas: most sportsmanlike, most improved, most valuable player, and athlete of the year. The following students were honoured as athletes of the year: Junior high male athlete of the year: Brandon Burt, Junior high female athlete of the year: Robyn Rideout, Senior high male athlete of the year: Kyle Burt. Senior high female athlete of the year: Natalie Burt.

On Friday, June 22nd Valmont Academy also recognized its academic achievement awards in the closing assembly. The awards given were elementary achievement, significant improvement, industry, leadership, creative writing, drama, recorder, choir, highest averages, and students of the year. The student of the year awards were given to the following: Junior high student of the year: Robyn Rideout, and Senior high student of the year: Megan Burt.
