Newfoundlanders and Labradorians are known for their support of one another and this loyalty is exactly what Courtney Woodford of Triton is counting on as she strives to be the first woman from this province ever to take home the Miss World Canada crown.
Woodford, a second year student at Memorial University of Newfoundland, is known in her community for her volunteering efforts and commitment to charitable events. She is no stranger to pageants and has received many accolades during provincial competitions, including being named first runner up at the 2010 Miss Newfoundland and Labrador pageant.
The Atlantic Canadian Recruiter for the Miss World Canada organization, Lori O’Keefe, selected Woodford to compete at the national event not only because of her many accomplishments and awards but also because of her potential to take home the national Miss World Canada crown.
“Courtney stands out from her competitors based on her talent, stage presence, and most importantly her ability to make everyone she encounters feel welcomed and comfortable – an important quality for a Miss World Canada titleholder.”
To ensure Woodford’s chance at the crown the public is asked to vote for her as their favourite contestant for the People’s Choice Award. The winner of the award will be fast tracked into the semi finals. Since the voting began on March 24th Woodford says the support has been overwhelming.
“I’m so thrilled that there has been an awesome response to voting for the People’s Choice Award. The people of Triton, the Green Bay South Area, across the province, even the country, have shown tremendous support so far. I can only hope that they would continue this support as the Miss World Canada Pageant draws closer.”
The public can vote in two ways. They can visit www.missworldcanada.org to cast their vote and they can visit the Miss World Canada Facebook page, www.facebook.com/OfficialMissWorldCanada, where they must “like” the page and then continue to on the People’s Choice Award link. Only one vote will be accepted per Facebook account and one vote per IP address. Voting is now open and concludes on May 13 when the finals of the Miss World Canada competition take place in Richmond, BC.
Woodford is currently leading the Facebook voting while fellow Newfoundlander, Geneiva Noble of Deer Lake, is leading the website voting.
