“I have a dream” was the theme of the Storytime at the Springdale Public Library on Saturday, as the children in attendance celebrated the 83rd birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., which was Sunday January 15th.
The children got to learn who this famous civil rights leader was and what he stood for – peace, non-violence, and equal rights for all races of people.
This was demonstrated with a coloured skin puppet named Casy and books with coloured children as the characters. Librarian Judy got the children to paint her face coloured to let them know that it didn’t matter the colour of your skin, you are the same as a everyone else inside.
The children then made the man of the day in a craft and a flag with his famous speech. They then got to view his speech live on the computer, which was a great way to put life to a man in which the birthday party was for.
The day concluded with all the children enjoying birthday cake!
